Every college has a student common room (known as a ‘JCR’), which has a TV, pool table, table football and newspapers. At Jesus, ours is called the Marshall Room. It’s going to get a nice refurbishment over the summer, with new furniture, as it’s been really popular with students recently.
At Jesus, we’re really lucky because we’ve got fantastic sports facilities on-site. Many of the other centrally-located colleges do have sports pitches, but they can be quite some distance away from the colleges themselves. At Jesus, we’ve got football, rugby and cricket pitch. We’ve also have tennis courts (grass and hard), squash courts, a gym, a netball court, a boat house for rowing and a hockey pitch. If you’re a little less traditional, you can also do weekly yoga classes in college, or give ultimate Frisbee a go. Nearly all Jesus students participate in sports at some level. As we’re quite a big college, we can have lots of teams for sports, so even if you’re pretty rubbish like me, you’ll be able to find place on a team. Equally, if you take your sport seriously, you can join our successful first teams. Our football team got to the final of the cup competition this season, while our hockey team won the league and cup double. Teams play other colleges during the weekends which is brilliant fun. Because the pitches are on-site, you’ll always get other students turning out to watch and cheer you on.
