Christophe Rhodes , Automatic detection of musical structure
Abstract:
The relentless advance of computational power allows examination of ever more complex and imprecisely-specified issues. We discuss the investigation of one such issue through the MPEG-7 toolchain for representing multimedia, focusing particularly on issues of cognitive and musical interest and specifically on detection of hierarchical structure in audio streams. We present a comparison of results with the structure identified by an expert human listener, and discuss the scientific and technological applications.
