The JCSU has an LGBT+ Students’ Officer who is responsible for the needs and concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community within college. These needs and concerns are diverse and as such the role is a versatile one with two main strands: welfare and social.

Welfare

At Jesus we pride ourselves on our great sense of community and with this comes a tolerant and accepting environment, particularly for LGBT+ students. Although this is the case, the LGBT+ Officer proactively ensures that this remains to be true and the JCSU strives to ensure we are always improving students’ experiences.

The LGBT+ Officer is able to provide support on any worries or concerns that may arise during your time at the University whether they are LGBT+ related or not. They are always available for a chat no matter how small the issue. They are also able to distribute sexual health supplies upon request and these can be provided discretely.

Social

Throughout the year the LGBT+ Officer organises and promotes a range of college and Uni-wide LGBT+ events ranging from club nights and theatre trips to LGBTea and biscuits and LGBT+ brunches. We also have an active LGBT+ discussion group in college and celebrate LGBT+ history month in February, amongst other things. The LGBT+ Officer is more than happy to facilitate any event that LGBT+ students at Jesus want to create or promote.

Generally Cambridge is a great place to be LGBT+ and the LGBT+ Officer is here to ensure this continues to be the case and to ensure that each and every LGBT+ student in Jesus thoroughly enjoys their time here.

The current LGBT+ Students’ Officer is Anthony Wheeler and he is more than happy to answer any of your questions, just drop him an email on jcsu-lgbt@jesus.cam.ac.uk.
