Wednesday 30th September


10am, 12pm, 2pm: College tour [in person]
A tour of college by a second or third year Jesuan, with 5 other freshers. This is a chance to meet people from outside your staircase and get your bearings before freshers’ week starts. Book a time slot and start location using the Eventbrite link below. 

6pm: Freshers’ BBQ [in person]
This event is for any freshers who have arrived today (Wednesday) – you do not need to book. Stroll down to the Marquee (on the grass area near JBar) for great food and even better conversation with fellow freshers. If you arrived early, we will be in touch about which date to attend.

Thursday 1st October

The stall will be located in the marquee and you must wear a mask while purchasing one. Gowns are expensive, but you will get a lot of use out of it during your degree.

Friday 2nd October

Saturday 3rd October

11am – 2pm: Freshers’ brunch [in person]
The famous Jesus brunch (trust us, it’s good) in the new Caff at the Forum – this brunch has been reserved for freshers only. Book a slot at this via Upay with the link below.

Throughout the day: Meet your college parents [in person]
Your college parents will be in contact with you soon. This will be a great way to meet your college family – whether in the Marquee, on the nature trail or grabbing a cuppa in town. 

3.45pm – 5.15pm: Matriculation photos [in person]
Compulsory individual photos (which will then be stitched together into one big matriculation photo you can purchase) will take place in Chapel Court. Wear smart attire and your gown. Arrive very promptly at your time slot, which will be communicated to you by the Tutorial Department. 

7pm: Staircase relay quiz [virtual]
A huge event run by the JCSU Ents Officers which will involve an epic battle against other fresher staircases with big prizes at stake! Zoom link below.

Throughout the day: Wellbeing Essentials [virtual]
This compulsory Zoom event will provide you with all the information you need on anything welfare related. These will be run by mental health charity Mind alongside college welfare tutors and JCSU welfare officers. Sign up for a slot on Moodle.


Sunday 4th October


10am: First Sunday Eucharist [in person]
Join us for a friendly service of the Eucharist, with readings, music, prayers, a short sermon, and the sharing of Communion. Eucharist lasts around 30 minutes, and is sung by members of the College Choir. You are welcome to join us for a light breakfast of tea/coffee and pastries after the service.

11am – 2pm: Brunch [in person]
Can’t get enough of Jesus brunch? Well, luckily for you, brunch will be running at this time on Saturday and Sunday throughout term time – book a slot on Upay

1.30pm – 4.30pm: College societies and sports fair [in person]
This is a chance to see what sports and societies in Jesus have to offer, and to sign up for any that take your fancy. You must wear a mask during the fair. You will also be able to sign up for any sports taster sessions here. Book your entry time with the Eventbrite link below.

5pm: Sustainable periods workshop [virtual]
This event is an opportunity to find out more about sustainable periods with the JCSU Women’s & NB (Jess) and Green (Zak) Officers. Google Hangout link below.

6pm: First Sunday Evensong [in person]
Join us for a service of readings, music and prayers, with an address from the Dean of Chapel. Choral Evensong lasts around 40 minutes, and is sung by the Choirs of Jesus College. You are welcome to join us for our termly Chapel supper following the service.

7.30pm: Outdoor cinema [in person]
An opportunity to watch Ferris Bueller’s Day Off with fellow freshers in the Marquee (on grass near JBar). Bring your own popcorn and blanket – Cambridge gets cold in October! Book with the Eventbrite link below.

Chill out in the Marquee (on grass area near JBar) with fellow freshers. Bring your own blanket or beanbag – Cambridge gets cold in October! Numbers will be capped at 30 and zones will be clearly marked out for 6 people to socialise.

A Zoom event to find out more from key figures in college about what life will be like this term – get your questions at the ready! Zoom link will be emailed to you by college before the event starts.

3pm: Meet your Mental Health and Disabilities Officer [virtual]
Come along to virtually meet Sophie for a chat and to ask any questions! Anyone is welcome! Google Hangouts link will be posted below.

6.30pm: Evensong [in person]
Join us for a service of readings, music and prayers. Choral Evensong lasts around 30 minutes, and is sung by the Choirs of Jesus College.

9pm: Blues and Chill [virtual]
A Jesus staple. Sit back and relax in your staircases by listening to chilled music from other Jesuans. This will be run by Virtual Jesus, livestream link will be released below soon. 


Wednesday 7th October


10am – 4pm: Cambridge SU Freshers’ Fair [virtual]
A virtual freshers’ fair run by the Cambridge Students’ Union. You will be able to see all the university-wide sports and societies that you can sign up. Link below.

3pm: LGBT+ Family Social [in person]
Chilled small-group get together for your LGBT+ college family. Ben, the JCSU LGBT+ Officer, will be in contact soon.

7pm: Dancesport Sessions [virtual]
An online session run by the Cambridge University DanceSport Team to get a taster for Ballroom and Latin dancing and have some fun! You could always use your kitchen and do it as a staircase! Zoom link below.

8pm – 10pm: Marquee hangout [in person]

Evening: Freshers’ Formal [in person]
A chance to enjoy Jesus formal for the first time! Book via Upay (release date of tickets coming soon), but don’t worry if it’s sold out already – there will be another opportunity for a Freshers only formal on Friday 16th October. Wine will be provided by college.

Evening: JBar reserved for freshers only [in person]
Enjoy the classic Jesus experience of strolling over to the bar for some drinks after formal – book via UPay! Again, this will be available on the 16th as well.


Saturday 10th October


10am – 3pm: Welfare soap making [in person]
30 minute slots for you and your staircase to meet the JCSU Welfare Officers, Honor and Angus, while making soap! This event will be run in the Cricket Pavilion and your staircase will be contacted about your time slot.

5pm: International Language Cafe [virtual]
A chilled out virtual ‘café’ run by Satya, our International Students’ Officer. Come along to speak your native language with others in breakout rooms on Zoom, or to have some practise for a language you’re currently learning! Satya will be in contact with details soon.

10am – 12pm: Sports Taster Sessions [in person]
Book these at the College Fair and have some fun on a Sunday morning trying out some new sports! You will be told about locations closer to the time. 

2pm: College sports Q&A [virtual]
A virtual event for you to find out more about college sports, run by Adam, the president of the Rhadegunds (society representing sports captains in college). Zoom link below.

3pm: History of College and ties with slavery [virtual]
An online zoom event run by Bobby (JCSU BME Officer) and Veronique (Chair of College’s Legacy of Slavery Working Party). An educational and discussion based session about what Jesus College is doing to address its past history. We strongly recommend you attend this session.

7pm: Pub quiz [virtual]
A classic pub-style quiz, brought to you over Zoom by your JCSU Ents Officers. Prizes are up for grabs, so bring your A game!
